Park Rangers and Ukulele Sounds

As the second week of our stay in the United States is coming to an end, I am more certain than before that the people here are the best aspect of this programme.

Yesterday, our group went to the Portland Head Light. The view was truly spectacular, and at the end of the trip we met a sweet old man. The gentleman, who works there as a park ranger, told us, "You are all intelligent young people, with your whole life ahead of you, and all of you being here, learning leadership skills and getting to know people like me in the mean-time, tells me that it will be a beautiful future." This single sentence made not only mine, but everyone's day. I am confident that it was a moment everyone will remember.

Later that day, my friend and I went to watch the sunset by the ocean when suddenly a guy with a ukulele came and started singing. We sat there for an hour, listening to beautiful melodies and watching dogs get pampered by their owners on the beach. As cheesy as it sounds, it felt like a movie. But it was no movie — it was just an ordinary evening in the beautiful city of Portland.

The best part is, this can be your experience as well. All you have to do is apply!
