leadership Academy: Tri and afrobeats
Sunday was a memorable day for us BAFF leadership academy students. Although we had to wake up a little earlier, after a warm breakfast we had an unforgettable experience - volunteering for the Tri for a Cure triathlon. As we learned, Tri for a Cure is the largest triathlon in the state of Maine, consisting of a 1/3-mile swim, a 15-mile bike ride, and a 3-mile run. This year, it has raised an estimated $1.7 million for cancer research. Some of us were assigned to supervise traffic together with the local police, others oversaw the crossings along the course, and some took care of the fantastic spectators. We had the opportunity to talk to the local Americans who volunteered with us, but we also managed to talk to several triathlon participants who shared their stories.
Later, after a much-needed break, we had the opportunity to dance at the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Maine. Not only did we have a challenging dance exercise, but we all learned a new dance inspired by traditional African dance moves, paying homage to African American culture in the United States of America. We were overjoyed to return to campus after such a tiring but wonderful activity.
Best regards,
